Miami Fashion Bloggers Night Out

After having attended the IFB Con in New York City back in February, I came home feeling the need to find out where all the other Miami bloggers were hanging out. Well, after attending Wednesday’s Fashion Bloggers Night Out event at Neiman Marcus in the Village of Merrick Park, it’s clear that this community may be fledgling but it certainly doesn’t lack for enthusiasm.

With a panel consisting of The Fashion Poet‘s Annie Vazquez, Refinery 29‘s Karla Garcia, Miami.com‘s Maria Tettamanti, Daily Candy‘s Ginger Harris, and Next Model‘s Jenny Lopez, established and amateur bloggers alike got some insight into the efforts behind making it in this city in this covet-able light. And, of course, there was a fashion show.

I, for one, am thrilled at the possibility of a developing blogger community in Miami and am curious to see what kind of impact these established ladies, and those of us trying to figure it out, will make on this curiously transient city. For now, there are pics below and many more on the Facebook. Happy blogging. xo

P.S. A BIG THANK YOU to my BFF, Ms. YHA, for taking time to snap tons of great pics while I snagged some on my phone for my Instagram obsession.

Miami Fashion Week 2012: By Misha

By Misha took the runway at Miami Fashion Week with nothing less than the richest fabrics and the matching tiaras to go with them. Unveiling the Crown Jewels collection, Miami International University graduate Misha Vaidya displayed the influences of her British upbringing in a collection studded with luxuriously flowing fabrics, deep jewel tones, and exquisitely tailored jackets, with each piece representing a queen, princess, or some aspect of royalty. The collection managed to remain youthful and wearable despite its regal them.

Miami Fashion Week 2012: Ema Savahl Couture

There’s something to be said about couture and the avant garde. If done right, it can evoke such feelings akin to that of a profound piece of artwork. Another one of my favorites, the delicate intricacies found in Ema Savahl Couture’s collection at Miami Fashion Week were romantic, stunning – simply beautiful. From the subtle blush of nude to the variegated lace, each piece was unique in its exquisite construction.

Miami Fashion Week 2012: Art of Shade

With Brickell Fashion Week coming up next week and Miami Fashion Week not too far behind, I thought I’d keep the momentum going by continuing to post some favorites from the shows.

You might have first seen Art of Shade as featured in my teaser a little while ago, or maybe  as they made their debut last year and earned the coveted Designer’s Choice Award. This year’s collection was equally impressive with a hard edge that was surprisingly neither forced nor contrived, but rather displayed a little sci-fi-meets-post-apocalyptic-vulnerability.

Don’t really get what I mean? Check out the pics below to see for yourself and check out our Facebook page for more images from this show and many others.

Miami Fashion Week 2012: Street Style

One of my favorite things about attending any fashion show is watching the people and seeing how they pull together clothing and accessories to express themselves in a way that represents who they are and how they see the world – particularly this crazy thing called fashion that we just can’t get enough of.

As anticipated, Miami Fashion Week was unlike anything else that goes on in the world of fashion events and I’m grateful to What I Wear for having allowed me the chance to capture the other side of the runway: Street Style. I met some incredibly stylish people who inspired me to jump back into my closet and re-think my image.

Though there were many to choose from, I posted some of my favorite looks below. But you can catch the full feature on What I Wear’s blog, along with a slew of other fashion shows from around the world.

If you were kind enough to let me feature you, thanks a bunch. You were an inspiration. Xo.

MBIFW 2012 Swimwear: Pais del Sol

Hailing from Ecuador, Pais del Sol showed two collections at Miami Beach International Fashion Week, with most models flaunting their traditional handmade Panama hats. Since 2008, Pais del Sol has been working on small collections rather than mass-produced items in an effort to create a more personalized design experience. These two collections at Miami Fashion Week were examples of their varied style, with one being ethnically influenced and the other made with environmentally friendly dyes and fabrics.

MBIFW 2012 Swimwear: Emma

Emma Swimwear’s debut collection at Miami Beach International Fashion Week brought with it the warmth of the Greek Isles, home to emerging designer Emmanuela Iliaki. Despite this being her first collection, Emma has enjoyed top-level fashion experience, working previously for esteemed fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen. Partial to prints that favor the bohemian, Emma names her inspiration as the elements and simplicity of nature.
