Cocktails for Happy Hour

I love a good cocktail…ring. Seriously, though, if you’ve been following along on my weekly Happy Hour selections, you’ve probably noticed I have a healthy obsession with accessories. I love a good bauble as much as the next girl, but the thing is really how darn HOT it is in Miami all the time. Without accessories, we’re really just barely a step above walking around in rough-spun linen.

Enter the cocktail ring. If you’re Cuban or have grown up in Miami’s Cuban culture, you know the importance of punctuating a sentence with a good hand gesture. These cocktail rings deliver that point with style (and make us Cuban girls sparkle ever so gently while carrying on a conversation). Sparkle on, friends. Sparkle on.

Miami Fashion Week Teaser

It’s been a long week of shows and emerging designs, each fighting hard to make an impression on a crowd saturated with buyers and stylists. Though there were some collections that could have used some serious editing, for the most part, designers at Miami Beach International Fashion Week put out some memorable pieces – one of whom is shown below.

I have an incredible amount of images to share with you. But today, I leave you with one of my favorites. Art of Shade by Kayce Armstrong, recipient of the highly coveted Designer’s Choice Award at last year’s Fashion Week, returned with EVOLVE, a very well-received collection of “hard edged industry and lofty sails”, for their second appearance at MBIFW.

Check back often – I’ll be posting images from every show we attended. You can also find some daily pics on Facebook. Did any of you make it out to Fashion Week? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Let me know in the comments. Happy Friday!

First Day of Spring 2012

Happy First Day of Spring, everyone. I hope you made some time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. I celebrated by wearing bright accessories and painting on some vibrant shades courtesy of my long-time favorite, Essie.

I’m gearing up for the beginning of Miami Fashion Week tomorrow, so check back to see my coverage. You can follow me on Instagram at @apalma419, on Twitter at @wunderland419, and on Facebook (yep, I’m connected). And hit me up if you plan to attend. I’d love to see what you’re wearing and snap some shots of your street style!

Until then, have a great week and enjoy some of my favorites for the day.

Lucky Green Happy Hour

Oh, Friday, how I love thee. You make the whole week worth it. It’s been a little soggy in Miami, which is a sad change of pace from last week’s frizz free weather. But the weekend awaits and then a busy week celebrating Miami Fashion Week. First things first, though. To kick off the shamrockin’ weekend ahead (yep, I totally just said that), I bring you the greenest of accessories to get lucky in.

Mondo Guerra for Nanette Lepore

Last week’s episode of Project Runway All Stars found quirky designer Mondo Guerra in the winner’s circle again, this time with an item worthy of Nanette Lepore’s approval.

The result of a runway challenge aimed at maximizing profit while working within a budget, Mondo’s dress combines five different prints and fabrics to create a playful smock appropriate for casual days and flirty dates alike.

Not surprisingly, The Mystery Dress (shown left), sold out almost immediately. But it is currently available for pre-order on nanettelepore.com, shipping again on May 15th.

Retailing for $298, all proceeds from this garment will benefit the Save the Garment Center organization in New York City. Order yours here.

In the meantime, you can snatch up some of Mondo’s other items in his online shop.

Project Runway airs Thursdays on Lifetime at 10:00 p.m.

Suit Up for Happy Hour

The weather in Scottsdale has been nothing short of perfect: crisp, sunny, breezy and not a drop of humidity in sight. But as Miami teeters dangerously close to Summer even in the very beginnings of Spring, a girl has to set aside fantasies of cooler days and just suit up.

In today’s Happy Hour, I give you a few suits to splurge on this payday – swimsuits that will have you begging for those scorching Summer days on the beach. Or at least a really great lounge chair to wear them on while channeling your inner Bettie Page.

Arizona Inspired

This week finds me in Scottsdale, land of red sands, lavish golf resorts, exquisite spas, and very good hair days (read: zero humidity). And while I’m here purely for work, it’s hard not to be inspired by a place with so much vivid texture and tapestry. Mostly everything here has been embellished with some sort of rich print and it’s left me hungry for more indigenous flavors. So I leave you with two little treats to indulge in mid-week, as it appears Gwen Stefani was also feeling inspired by the same.

Haute Heel Happy Hour

We are soaring to new heights for this Friday’s Happy Hour as I’m finding it hard to turn my attention away from the Cirque show the hubby and I will be catching later tonight. It’ll be MJ all the way this evening and I just want to put on my dancing shoes and jam out to P.Y.T. until my neighbors bang on the wall for mercy (they totally deserve it).

In honor of the sequined moon-walker, I give you the high heels I’m pretty sure Michael was singing about.

A Very Studded Happy Hour

Alas we meet again on Friday, the most rewarding of all days. This week has found me in a rebellious mood. Could be my innate overwhelming repulsion towards authority. Maybe I’ve just been channeling my inner Joan Jett. Or maybe a girl just needs to feel like a badass every now and then. Whatever the reason, I’ve recently developed an obsession with punk-inspired, spiked, and studded jewelry that’s led me to scour shops and amass a collection of anything that can plausibly cause injury. If you ask me, that’s a hot characteristic in a piece of jewelry and I’ll gladly take two. If your inner vixen is in need of accessorizing, throw on some leather and knock yourself out with a few of my favorites below in today’s Happy Hour.

Miami Fashion Week: March 21 – 24, 2012

So…Miami Fashion Week is right around the corner and, as it turns out, I’ll be there front and center (or as far up close as a press pass buys you) to bring you the latest. I’ll be live-tweeting (@wunderland419), blogging, sharing pics on Instagram (@apalma419), updating on Facebook, and just generally having some sort of social media overdose just to be sure you’re all in the know. So stay tuned and follow me as I venture into this international fashion showcase – if I know Miami, this week will be anything but predictable.
