Favorite Finds: Stephanie Lian’s Closet

Stephanie Lian's Closet Discount Code on Bubbles & Ink

My love of accessories knows no bounds – probably because it’s the ONE thing we can layer on here in swelteringly sunny Miami. Which is why I’ve become pretty great at sniffing out a deal on the  trends that make my otherwise very casual closet something more than just basic tanks and tees. But scoring a find isn’t fun unless I’m sharing the joy with someone, so Favorite Finds Fridays is my way of sharing the love with you.

This week, I bring you Stephanie Lian’s Closet, a little shop with some major style. This is the kind of shop that offers you accessories like that statement necklace you absolutely need for the season but at a fraction of the cost the other retailers are charging. I’ve personally picked up a few items for myself and rocked them in New York during fashion week with the same style the bigger names were offering.

And thanks to the very generous girl behind this shop, you get to try them out with an even deeper discount. Readers of Bubbles & Ink will get 40% off all regular priced jewelry items now through June 30th by entering code BUBBLES at checkout. Get on it, ladies! And let me know what you find!

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target

Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly love Target any more, they announced this morning that their next designer collaboration is with none other than accessory great Phillip Lim. The it-bag designer will be debuting a collection featuring more than 100 items ranging in price from $19.99 to $299.99 for apparel and $19.99 to $59.99 for accessories. Coveted pieces include bags, dresses and a trench coat for women, and shoes and a leather moto jacket for men. Travel accessories, such as a duffle bag and multipurpose pouches for women and men, round out the collection. Items hit stores September 15th, so be sure to mark your calendars. I have a feeling this is going to be another Wu/Mossimo-type situation.

Target’s next design collaboration lands in stores and online this Sunday, April 14th with a collection of women’s apparel and accessories from celebrity stylist Kate Young. The limited-edition collection features an assortment of special occasion dresses from the woman who’s styled countless celebrities and runway shows as well as worked on other famous Target campaigns – Jason Wu, anyone? Pieces range in price from $29.99 to $89.99 for apparel and $14.99 to $49.99 for jewelry, handbags and shoes. I’ve posted some of my favorite looks here but you can get a full view with prices on Target’s look book.

Maternity Chic: 4 Tips to Dressing the Belly

Header - Bubbles & Ink - Dressing the Belly Post

Week 32 is here and with it the slow waddle befitting one whose rotund nature is weighing heavily on their self esteem. In need of motivation, I started looking back through old pictures on my phone and came across a few shots of me dressing a belly that’s clearly got a plan of its own.

If you’re busy growing a small person of your own, I’m sure you can relate. It’s difficult to feel good about yourself when you barely recognize that person in the mirror. But take comfort in the fact that everyone else will tell you you’re glowing even if you’re sure that’s just a thin sheen of sweat breaking across your forehead from going up what used to be a short flight of stairs. Take heart. It’s only temporary. And your handbags will still fit, no matter what kinds of shenanigans your belly gets into.

Below, I give you four easy tips to dressing that belly that I discovered over the past months after making a serious effort to avoid the maternity shops. So far, mission accomplished. How’d I do? Any tips of your own you can share with us first-timers?

1) BELT THAT BUMP

Going through the first few months was tricky because all my regular clothes still fit but just made me look overweight, not pregnant. I quickly discovered that belting the baby bump would bring attention to my growing belly and clear up for everyone the fact that I was creating a person in there and not just really enjoying those Buffalo wings at Sports Grill (though I really DID enjoy all those Buffalo wings at Sports Grill…). To clear up any confusion and proudly show off your new curves, grab a skinny belt and wear it just above the belly. Something with embellishments adds a really nice touch and makes you look pulled together. Belted dresses or wrap dresses also grow with you.

2) LOOK FOR LARGER SIZES

I was hesitant to dive into the maternity shops when I knew this would only be temporary. The truth is, you can easily fit into larger sizes and avoid the pregnancy tent phenomenon for quite a long while if you shop for larger sizes. Knowing I could find inexpensive pieces and still be on trend, I hit up shops like Forever 21 for loose-fitting items. I also shopped my own closet for comfortable stretch fabrics (maxi skirts, soft tees) that have worked for me even until today, at week 32. Maxi dresses with empire waists have also been an essential wardrobe stable that need not come from a maternity store.

3) THE POWER OF BLACK TIGHTS

When my jeans and pants stopped fitting against all better efforts, I discovered my new wardrobe staple: black tights. Sure, there are belly bands and such to make your existing pieces work. But the truth is that I didn’t want to bother with any of it. I wanted to pull something on and be done with it. So came the black tight uniform I’ve been shamelessly reinventing for several months now. Dress up or down by adding a basic tee or sweater, or even your husband’s favorite shirt. The very best part is that they’re fairly cheap and easy to replace if you outgrow them (I shopped Old Navy and Target).

4) ACCESSORIES ALWAYS FIT

When all else fails, the great thing is that no matter how big your baby bump gets, accessories will ALWAYS fit. Pile on your favorites or wear one standout piece. The choice is yours. But a little glitz always makes me feel much better when my clothing options begin to look like glorified tents. Remember it’s just temporary and you’ll be looking like yourself in a short while. I hear running after a little one just makes the pounds melt off.

Friday Giveaway: Bubble Buttons

I know it’s been a long week for everyone, what with the election and all that inevitable controversy Florida always brings to it (smh). So let’s end it on a good note with a quick Friday giveaway. If you’re not familiar with Bubble Buttons, here’s your chance to get acquainted.

Bubble Buttons are basically a sticker for that concave home button on your iDevice. I’ve been using it on my iPhone 4S for a little over a week now and can’t imagine going back to not having it; it actually makes my home button easier to use. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels more responsive. I usually have terrible luck with home buttons, so this has been a great little save for me. At only $4.95 per six-pack, it’s a great little fix with a lot of personality (check mine out in the pic above).

You can win your own six-pack today by: 1) Leaving a quick comment here with your preferred choice (Yummy Pack or Mustache Pack) and 2) Liking the Bubbles & Ink Facebook page if you haven’t already. Simple as that. I’ll announce the winner here at the end of the day. Contest ends at 5:00 p.m. ET.

You can also win an iPad 2 from Bubble Buttons by going to their Facebook page and liking them to get all the contest details. Best of luck to everyone with all these freebies!

UPDATE: Thanks so much to everyone who entered! Congratulations to our two winners, Vanessa Rocha and Jenny Lee Lewis! Please message me on Facebook to claim your prize!

Love, Always

Thanks to my Instagram addiction, I’ve discovered numerous little online shops crammed with items that are too friggin’ cute and are insistently urging a need to make their way into my already-too-full accessories bins.  But it’s not like I plan to resist. Like I said – they’re too friggin’ cute.

One of said adorable shops is Love, Always, a boutique that not only purveys trendy items for an affordable price but does so with a moral conscience – 10% of all profits are donated to varying anti-bullying organizations. That makes them even harder to resist.

I’ve plucked out some of my favorites below. And because you’re all fabulous readers of Bubbles & Ink, Love, Always is giving you a special coupon code for 15% off your purchase. Just enter BUBBLES when prompted at checkout. So do a little shopping while you do a little good. Because there’s nothing cute at all about bullying.

Miami Staycation: The Beach

Though the weather hasn’t been particularly beach-friendly over the past couple of weeks (particularly for MBFWS), Tony and I were lucky enough to enjoy some time in the sunshine during a mid-week staycation (I still question the validity of that word), which, in my opinion, is the best of its kind because there never seems to be better weather than when it’s Tuesday and you’re locked indoors.

This gloriously sunny day fell upon us by chance as we decided to leave our far-too-westward apartment on a gloomy morning and found that, indeed, there is always better weather upon entering Miami Beach.

And though you know I’m usually offensive to the point of snarky about Miami’s less-than-desirable traits (traffic on the 836, anyone?), days like this make me eat my words – this time at Big Pink, a sanguine corner diner everyone should visit after a dip in the ocean (if you can find parking within a three-mile radius).

More staycation (I know) updates coming up this week, complete with a trip to The Forge‘s enomatic wine bar for your voyeuristic pleasure. And be sure to hover over the pics for more info. You won’t want to skip that “jargarita” recipe. That’s one little mason jar full of sip-able bliss. Cheers!

Amorium Jewelry Giveaway

Nothing softens the blow of a Monday morning like the promise of free stuff. This week, I’d like to start by giving you all the opportunity to win the fabulous hand jewelry I’m wearing below, courtesy of Amorium Jewelry, a Miami-based company that sells hand-made items originating from Turkey. (You might have seen their other hot items, like the be-jeweled purple skull ring, on my Instagram feed.)

While some pieces can be found in six stores around the city (Essence Boutique and RikRak Brickell, to name a few), you don’t have to be a local to shop; most items can be found on their website and you can win by doing the following:

1) Like the Bubbles & Ink and Amorium Jewelry Facebook pages.

2) Visit the Amorium Jewelry website and leave a comment on this post telling me which piece you liked the best.

That’s it! Contest ends Friday, July 20, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern. Winner will be selected at random. Good luck!

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who entered and CONGRATS to our winner, Yvette!

Bing Bang on BaubleBar

This week’s BaubleBar pop-up features design darling Anna Sheffield, the CFDA-nominated jeweler with a gift for balancing tough-chic pieces that feel sophisticated and on-trend rather than junior and angst-ridden. I picked a few of my favorites below and would suggest stepping over to BaubleBar rather quickly as it seems these pieces are really striking a chord – particularly with me.

Thanks to BaubleBar for the use of these images.
