Kid in the City: Lucy’s Favorite Miami Spots

Gymboree-Lucy-Bubbles & Ink-Miami

There are certain times of year when I wish for seasonal changes and colorful leaves on the ground. But enjoying a day of Miami’s crisp yet sunny fall weather this weekend easily made me forget that. In search of outdoor entertainment for Lucy, who is now a vocal and vibrant 19-month-old, led us to some of Miami’s most scenic spots.

Girls & Beer

Bubbles & Ink Blog

Saturday’s Wynwood Brewing Co. celebration found me with a baby and husband in tow around Wynwood’s colorful, art-loving, food-truck-gathering streets. This was Lucy’s first time out in that neighborhood and she seemed to be really amused by the graffiti walls and chalk-drawn sidewalks, not unlike her parents. Since she’s a Miami native, like her momma, we decided to capture a few shots to commemorate the visit to one of our city’s most iconic spots. The whole experience, though short because of the extreme heat, was really exciting for everyone – it’s not everyday you get to watch your little girl embrace some of the very things you enjoy yourself (minus the fermented stuff).

As a result of the experience, I wrote a piece for SimplyQ  – a basic craft beer guide for ladies, something I hope you’ll find helpful. Feel free to check it out on their site. And to see more pics of Lucy romping around town, click on through.

Milestones

Birthdays & Milestons: Life Lesson on Bubbles & Ink

I celebrated my 34th birthday this weekend. A year ago, I was becoming a mom for the first time, something I thought would never happen. Not because I didn’t think I could handle it. But more because I didn’t think it was my “thing.” I was never the little girl pushing a baby stroller with her dolly in it. And I never went gaga for kids the way my friends did. When I hit my twenties and realized I didn’t coo at every passing infant the way other mommy-hopefuls did, I figured that wasn’t my path and I was OK with that. Combined with my hopes for a successful career, a love of tattoos, incurable wanderlust, and a mouth that curses a little too often, I was hardly anything close to the definition of motherhood. But then I met Lucy.

How to Look Good in Photos

NOM Photography on Bubbles & Ink | How to Look Good in Photos

The holidays are upon us, which means there will be photo opportunities galore. And while some people have a natural gift for looking great in every picture, some of us need a little help in facing that camera. Like me, when I forget I should probably suck in my stomach after indulging in Abuela’s cooking a little too often. (But seriously, Abuela’s cooking is amazing.) Here’s a guest post from the lovely Natasha of NOM Photography to help everyone get in line and look their best. Read through to the end for a special discount code for readers of Bubbles & Ink. Happy holidays!

Thoughts on Motherhood

On Motherhood

I just wanted to give a nod to all the moms out there for the amazing work you do. If you’ve managed to keep your child alive and healthy while maintaining some shred of sanity, I curtsy to you. Today marks four weeks since I began my journey as a new mom and while there have certainly been immeasurable joys to outweigh any and all inconveniences, there’s also this absurd reality that has indefinitely become everyday life.
