Miami Staycation: The Beach

Though the weather hasn’t been particularly beach-friendly over the past couple of weeks (particularly for MBFWS), Tony and I were lucky enough to enjoy some time in the sunshine during a mid-week staycation (I still question the validity of that word), which, in my opinion, is the best of its kind because there never seems to be better weather than when it’s Tuesday and you’re locked indoors.

This gloriously sunny day fell upon us by chance as we decided to leave our far-too-westward apartment on a gloomy morning and found that, indeed, there is always better weather upon entering Miami Beach.

And though you know I’m usually offensive to the point of snarky about Miami’s less-than-desirable traits (traffic on the 836, anyone?), days like this make me eat my words – this time at Big Pink, a sanguine corner diner everyone should visit after a dip in the ocean (if you can find parking within a three-mile radius).

More staycation (I know) updates coming up this week, complete with a trip to The Forge‘s enomatic wine bar for your voyeuristic pleasure. And be sure to hover over the pics for more info. You won’t want to skip that “jargarita” recipe. That’s one little mason jar full of sip-able bliss. Cheers!

Amorium Jewelry Giveaway

Nothing softens the blow of a Monday morning like the promise of free stuff. This week, I’d like to start by giving you all the opportunity to win the fabulous hand jewelry I’m wearing below, courtesy of Amorium Jewelry, a Miami-based company that sells hand-made items originating from Turkey. (You might have seen their other hot items, like the be-jeweled purple skull ring, on my Instagram feed.)

While some pieces can be found in six stores around the city (Essence Boutique and RikRak Brickell, to name a few), you don’t have to be a local to shop; most items can be found on their website and you can win by doing the following:

1) Like the Bubbles & Ink and Amorium Jewelry Facebook pages.

2) Visit the Amorium Jewelry website and leave a comment on this post telling me which piece you liked the best.

That’s it! Contest ends Friday, July 20, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern. Winner will be selected at random. Good luck!

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who entered and CONGRATS to our winner, Yvette!

Bing Bang on BaubleBar

This week’s BaubleBar pop-up features design darling Anna Sheffield, the CFDA-nominated jeweler with a gift for balancing tough-chic pieces that feel sophisticated and on-trend rather than junior and angst-ridden. I picked a few of my favorites below and would suggest stepping over to BaubleBar rather quickly as it seems these pieces are really striking a chord – particularly with me.

Thanks to BaubleBar for the use of these images.

A Nuptial Happy Hour

Today’s Happy Hour post was inspired by the wedding I’ve been hired to work on today. As you’re reading this, it’s likely that I’m cursing the shoes I’m currently running in, never being one for convention over pretty stuff. But who can resist when there are shoes like the satin-y dreams the guys at Badgley Mischka think up? I wore them on my own wedding day (in fact, I wore two different pairs), and still regularly swoon over them.

Here are some gorgeous things you don’t have to be a bride to wear. In fact, I could seriously justify wearing these around the house while doing laundry (Never met a purchase I couldn’t justify – I’m that good). So, enjoy – and don’t curse me when you’re breaking these puppies in. Beauty, pain. All that jazz. Cheers!

BaubleBar Happy Hour

Winter skipped right over us in Miami. I can’t say I’m surprised. Just a little disappointed that my “winter” wardrobe didn’t really see much action except for those 3 days I spent in NYC in early February.  But that’s why I have accessories to turn to in the coming loooong summer months. It’s the only thing we really get to do well in this little city sauna we call home. Hence my new (and very quickly becoming serious) relationship (read: obsession) with BaubleBar.

For today’s Happy Hour, if you haven’t already heard of BaubleBar, you should probably become acquainted quickly. No, really. They’re basically just like that crazy dream accessories closet you see in movies about girls who don’t know they’re royalty but suddenly inherit a ridiculous amount of jewelry in every imaginable style to wear around their new palace while lounging on a silk chais being courted by the new prince she swears she’s only marginally interested in. The difference is that you can actually afford to bedeck yourself in their finest pieces without having to come across some sort of secret inheritance – a modern fairy tale to warm your heart.

Here are a few of my favorites – some of which I’ve been eyeing as a birthday treat… Hint!

A Very Studded Happy Hour

Alas we meet again on Friday, the most rewarding of all days. This week has found me in a rebellious mood. Could be my innate overwhelming repulsion towards authority. Maybe I’ve just been channeling my inner Joan Jett. Or maybe a girl just needs to feel like a badass every now and then. Whatever the reason, I’ve recently developed an obsession with punk-inspired, spiked, and studded jewelry that’s led me to scour shops and amass a collection of anything that can plausibly cause injury. If you ask me, that’s a hot characteristic in a piece of jewelry and I’ll gladly take two. If your inner vixen is in need of accessorizing, throw on some leather and knock yourself out with a few of my favorites below in today’s Happy Hour.

MAC Beads

Nothing says summer fashion like the classic BoHo look that gets us through the balmiest of days. Not one to miss out on accessorizing one of my favorite looks of the year, I picked up some beaded bracelets from mac beads after running into them at the salon. They don’t have a website yet but you can comment on their Facebook pics and they’ll send you a message with pricing, details, and info on how to pick up your selections.  You can also call Maria at 786-486-8806 for more info. mac beads range from $12 to $75 depending on the style. Not bad for handmade one-of-a-kind stuff. I’m sold. Happy shopping!
