Bing Bang on BaubleBar

This week’s BaubleBar pop-up features design darling Anna Sheffield, the CFDA-nominated jeweler with a gift for balancing tough-chic pieces that feel sophisticated and on-trend rather than junior and angst-ridden. I picked a few of my favorites below and would suggest stepping over to BaubleBar rather quickly as it seems these pieces are really striking a chord – particularly with me.

Thanks to BaubleBar for the use of these images.

Swim Shop

I was really hoping to make it out to the beach this morning but the weather didn’t quite cooperate. So instead, I’ve been in bed all morning, coffee in hand, shopping for what I would’ve worn if it weren’t such a blah kind of Saturday morning.

I’ve had a thing for one-pieces lately, probably because I’m feeling old and conservative. It’s making me sick to even think that way but that’s a topic for another post, preferably involving some sort of libation in hand. In any case, I’ve narrowed it down to these, all styles ranging from Old Navy to Miu Miu. What can I say. I’m an equal opportunity shopper.

Let me know what you think. You can click the pics to see more details.

ULINX Bracelet Giveaway

Happy Friday, everyone. Today’s giveaway comes courtesy of ULINX Modular Jewelry. Mine came in last week (see pic, bottom bracelet). The coolest thing about these bracelets is that they’re magnetic so they don’t need any sort of adjustment. In fact, you can play with them and rearrange them and just make them work for you at your whim. I also loved the fact that you can design your own, so you can pick your style, color, and extras.

For this giveaway, one reader will get their own personalized ULINX bracelet by doing the following:

1) Go to the ULINX site and design your own bracelet.

2) Save the design under your name.

3) Post your design to the ULINX Facebook page and tag Bubbles & Ink.

Contest ends one week from today on Friday, June 15th at 5:00 p.m. Eastern. Good luck!

P.S. Did you spot the hidden Pomeranian?

UPDATE: Congrats to our winner, Nicole!

Lokal Love

In a cluster of vacant spaces and abounding conventionality sits Lokal, a respite for those of us who wish we lived in the kind of city this little joint portrays. Unassuming, unpretentious, and just plain cozy, Lokal is the kind of place where one can enjoy a seriously good burger and a healthy selection of craft beers with only the occasional hipster sighting due to the $2 PBR cooler out by the window. It’s this little haven that saved our evening from Miami’s suffocating moisture and my admittedly poor choice of wardrobe throughout the summer months.

Perhaps it’s my naivete or occasional spurts of optimism that drive me to sign up for “free” events only to arrive and find that I do, indeed, live in Miami, and not Utah, as my husband so articulately likes to remind me – and all that that implies. It was in this sporadic state of idealism that I signed us up for the Rock of Ages premier at the Paragon, to later show up and be reminded that there’s usually a price for “free” and it often consists of sweating in Miami’s unforgiving humidity and standing in line behind what can only be described as the unwashed guy’s oily secretions (it smelled exactly as it sounds).

In the interest of full disclosure, I feel that it’s important to tell you that I suffer from a condition, as yet unnamed, where I often find myself inappropriately garbed and completely unawares until I’ve arrived at my destination that I’ve dressed for an entirely different city. Such was the case last night when I showed up in what I thought to be a completely acceptable casual outfit of dark-washed denim, long-sleeved cotton top, and platform pumps (see below) when what I really should have been wearing was a mu-mu and some flip flops to more comfortably stand in line behind approximately 300 of Miami’s other hopeful movie-goers.

Chalk it up to optimism or sheer delusion. Maybe it’s some underlying M.O. to eventually move to a more seasonal climate. But the fact remains that I was born and raised in Miami and yet still own a wardrobe consisting (without exaggeration) of 60% fall/winter items. We lasted all of twenty minutes before my bangs were plastered to my forehead and my “cute casual outfit” felt more like a winter coat at the beach. Without a chance of getting into the premier before suffering possible dehydration by denim, we cut our losses and decided on dinner.

Walking back, we realized we were stuck in a tourist trap full of franchised fried food so we made for the car and braved rush-hour traffic for about ten minutes when Tony literally turned the car around and said, “Screw this. We’re going to Lokal.” God bless his heart for knowing that a good burger can save any night. It’s probably one of the reasons I married him.

It took only a few minutes and a couple of IPA’s (Deviant Dale IPA, Dogfish Rotating Taps Milton DE, and Lagunitas IPA) to turn the night around. That, a mouthwatering 50/50 burger, some gator strips with an un-posted garlic sauce (thank you, Ms. Bartender), and a genuinely friendly staff. And really, in this city or any, what more could you want?

I know I’m not the first person to cover this place. Far from it. But this post is just a simple thank you from the bottom of my heart – for not falling into the generic food scene this city has seen for too damn long. And for allowing my husband and I a simple night of great food, beer, and conversation. It shouldn’t be such a rare occurrence. But in our transient little city, it tends to be. So here’s to hoping Lokal remains a local favorite, no cliched puns intended. We really look forward to seeing you again soon.

P.S. I love a bar with purse hooks. You’d be surprised how many places overlook this essential little detail. Thanks again, Lokal. From the ladies in Miami with annoyingly large bags that we just can’t seem to get enough of.

Loquita Totes

The indulgence continues – as does the therapy (see: previous post). So here’s another peek into one of my obsessions. I love a good tote bag. I may, in fact, simply have too many. But I’m not about to let that stop me. It’s only a problem if you admit it, right? In any case, healthy or not, here’s a selection of totes from Loquita for your indulgence and mine.

Retail Therapy

To say that I’ve had a rough week is the kind of understatement that deserves its own clever comparative metaphor that I’m simply too exhausted to originate. So rather than bore you with details of what ails me, I’ll ask you to join me in the one thing that usually helps cure my blues – retail therapy. And this time, I’m really going for it…at least in my fantasy shopping cart. I may not be able to spend a dime right now, but a girl can dream. Indulge with me and enjoy.

Btw, if you’re in the position to shop, click on these and get yourself something nice – and then tell me all about it so I can live vicariously. Xx

Fanboy Fashion Revisited

Many thanks to Jeremy Sheer for sending in pics of his own Assassin’s Creed Hoodie (below). Jeremy followed my January post and made his own hoodie, complete with beak and red lining. If you have a fanboy in your life, then you’ll be able to relate to my dilemma of trying to find this particular hoodie for my husband as a Christmas gift. Here it is again for your creative inspiration. Best of luck to those of you who’d like to recreate it. Send me pics if you do. I’d love to see them.

éclos Skin Care Giveaway – #EclosBeauty

This post brought to you by éclos Skin Care. All opinions are 100% mine.

Though I’m usually loathe to being photographed sans makeup, I’ve made an exception for this post in appreciation to the good people at éclos for sending over a little kit for me to try out the nicest-smelling skincare products I’ve ever come across.

I’ve always been a bit lax with skincare because, thankfully, I’ve never really had blemishes or acne to take care of. But then I hit my thirties and realized I could no longer keep coasting – my dark circles were becoming more pronounced and there were little lines and spots I hadn’t noticed before. That basically heralded the end of what I’d hoped would be perpetually maintenance-free healthy skin – and the beginning of my quest to find the right products.

Truthfully, when this little box arrived from éclos, I had three different brands sitting in my bathroom, all sort of pulling their weight but not really doing anything to gain permanent residence. Without sounding like too much of an infomercial, once I actually tried the plant-based beauty line, I was convinced I’d keep them around for a long time.

If you’ve never heard of them before, éclos products are made with Plant Stem Cells extracted from a rare Swiss apple (Uttwiler Spätlauber), which has shown tremendous “ability to stimulate skin stem cells, encouraging aging skin to behave like younger skin.”

I gave it a chance for a week and tried: the Facial Cleanser Skin Prep, Cellular Activator Face Serum, Moisture Therapy Regenerative Eye Cream, and the Instant Radiance Facial Scrub (use once daily, every other day). Aside from loving the way it smells (I wanted to eat it), the amazing thing about these products is that they don’t feel harsh on your skin like other cleansers and exfoliators I’ve tried. As I said before, I’m not really a fan of posting makeup-free pics, but I seriously think I’m a little more glow-y in the “after” pic, and the fact that my dark circles are pretty tame here does wonders for my self-esteem. Really. I feel as though I should be splashing water on my face while really upbeat music plays in the background.
