Alright, so it’s been a few weeks since New York and Lucky FABB. And while part of the reason it’s taken me so long to get on here and post this update is that motherhood is damn tough when your husband, baby AND Pomeranian are all sick with different things at the same time (not even kidding – wish I was), it’s also partly because there was one very large carry-on sized tote full of beauty products that came home with me and has taken up permanent residence in a corner outside my closet because I am not entirely sure where to stash it all yet. (Maybe a giveaway…? Stay tuned!) In any case, I was finally able to dig through that sucker and pull out my absolute favorite items. Most of these are really affordable, but read through or click for sales and special discounts you can use to get your own. Hope you like these as much as I do. I’ve been using most of them almost daily since I made it back home.

This is my first outfit post. Considering that I’m a “fashion blogger,” it’s almost laughable that it’s taken me three years to put myself in front of the camera. Most girls jump into this right away, with zero hesitation or hang-ups. And to them, I say, “Well done!” But I’m not like those girls.

Mara Hoffman’s Swim 2014 collection was easily one of the most highly anticipated shows of the entire week. And it’s easy to see why. The tribal-inspired prints were bright, fresh, and incredibly intricate, which made the clean silhouettes the perfect balance for the kind of swimsuits and resort wear we want to don all the time. Luckily, in Miami, we’re able to do that. This collection was absolutely stunning in its balance of bold color and pattern paired with the chicest simplicity of cut. Take a look at some of my favorite pieces.

I think one of my fondest memories as a young fashionista dates back to me at about the age of ten. My uncle’s wife, an aspiring singer, used to go to Betsey’s shop in Coconut Grove pretty often and I’d tag along for entertainment. After visiting Betsey’s shop a few times and scoping out her very colorful collection, I scraped my allowance together over a few weeks and treated myself to a head-to-toe outfit from the clearance bin, complete with matching full-length gloves. It was my very first designer purchase. I’d kill to find those pieces again. Or even to just dig up the picture my grandfather insisted on taking when I got home with my heaping bag of Betsey loot.

I wish I could tell you I was in better shape, but the truth is that fashion week is not for the fragile. Perhaps I underestimated the stamina and preparation it requires to survive five days of shows, but I’d liken it to the kind of focus one dedicates to training for a marathon (not that I’ve ever done that). Day two of Swim Week left me aching and blistered – quite literally, unfortunately, due to my stubborn insistence on wearing some sparkly little Guess wedges that felt reasonably comfortable in my living room but not as forgiving on the pool deck of the SLS hotel after three shows and five hours of standing-room-only accommodations. Still, my worship of this industry is propelling me forward. And so it shall be that I continue on…in flats.
Check out some pics from last night’s events with Poko Pano and Suboo Swim being at the top of my list for the day.

You don’t need to have a press pass to enjoy next week’s Swim Week activities. The Dream Hotel will be kicking things off on the 17th with a rooftop fashion show and The Catalina Hotel, right across the street from the official MBFW Swim action, will be hosting a Swimtastic Pop Up Shop complete with goody bags, giveaways, and a beauty bar that are all open to the public. The fun keeps going with events through Sunday, July 21st. Just be sure to RSVP { rsvp [at] itmarketingconcepts [dot] com } for the fashion show. Enjoy!

It’s a funny thing, parenthood. It’s Saturday, we’ve got a babysitter for 24 hours, and the best and most exciting use I can find for my time is catching up on work and running errands. And this makes me perfectly happy. I was tinkering around on my site, making updates, when I came across this draft of images from my last trip to Manhattan in September 2012. It was fashion week, I was attending some very trendy events, and, newly pregnant, decided it was a good idea to fit into an obscenely tight pair of red skinny jeans. I regretted it almost immediately when, two hours later, I realized I’d forgotten to factor in my newly growing belly’s need for space when sitting. Thankfully, Lucy is now out and safely on the other side of the bump with no zipper marks to speak of.

My love of accessories knows no bounds – probably because it’s the ONE thing we can layer on here in swelteringly sunny Miami. Which is why I’ve become pretty great at sniffing out a deal on the trends that make my otherwise very casual closet something more than just basic tanks and tees. But scoring a find isn’t fun unless I’m sharing the joy with someone, so Favorite Finds Fridays is my way of sharing the love with you.
This week, I bring you Stephanie Lian’s Closet, a little shop with some major style. This is the kind of shop that offers you accessories like that statement necklace you absolutely need for the season but at a fraction of the cost the other retailers are charging. I’ve personally picked up a few items for myself and rocked them in New York during fashion week with the same style the bigger names were offering.
And thanks to the very generous girl behind this shop, you get to try them out with an even deeper discount. Readers of Bubbles & Ink will get 40% off all regular priced jewelry items now through June 30th by entering code BUBBLES at checkout. Get on it, ladies! And let me know what you find!
