For Mom

Today’s Happy Hour post is dedicated to the Mom in your life. The lady who held your hand when you were low and gave you good advice even when you really didn’t want it. The lady who’s put up with you through your adolescent, college, and bad boyfriend years. The lady who still loves you despite your faults – and actually thinks you’re the best thing to ever happen to her, no matter what. Here’s to the moms who know better and aren’t afraid to say so – because it’s for your own good, dammit.

These gifts are all under $100 and go one step beyond the usual flowers and card. Go ahead and buy a little something for mom to show her you may not be done making her crazy, but you can surely make the experience a little sweeter. Happy Mother’s Day, all. And thanks for all you do.

The Webster Shop at Target

If you’re dreading the weather this week, you can at least take solace in some retail therapy, courtesy of the people at Target that fell in love with The Webster Miami and decided to give it a permanent home in their shops – making it reasonably affordable for the rest of us to indulge in the carefully curated style that is the polished and fashion-forward Webster.

With prices ranging from $7.99 to $49.99, the Target shop captures the spirit of the Miami boutique at a fraction of the cost – sans the big designer labels, of course. The Webster at Target collection hits stores and Target.com May 6, 2012, along with items for kids, baby, women’s shoes and select styles in plus and petite being exclusive to Target.com.

Caribbean Happy Hour

The end of a long week feels so incredibly sweet. My husband and I are getting away for a few days to the Caribbean, so I have already happily checked out of work mode, even though we both still have a ton of stuff to do before we can officially set our brains to vacation status. Regardless, I’ve already packed (mentally, anyway) and can’t wait to trade my heels for some (really shiny Tory Burch) flip flops.

Here’s what I’m taking with me:

1) Monaco Straw Banded Fedora

2) ASOS Beach Cover Up

3) Red Polka Dot One Piece Swimsuit

4) Tory Burch Flip Flops

Miami Fashion Bloggers Night Out

After having attended the IFB Con in New York City back in February, I came home feeling the need to find out where all the other Miami bloggers were hanging out. Well, after attending Wednesday’s Fashion Bloggers Night Out event at Neiman Marcus in the Village of Merrick Park, it’s clear that this community may be fledgling but it certainly doesn’t lack for enthusiasm.

With a panel consisting of The Fashion Poet‘s Annie Vazquez, Refinery 29‘s Karla Garcia, Miami.com‘s Maria Tettamanti, Daily Candy‘s Ginger Harris, and Next Model‘s Jenny Lopez, established and amateur bloggers alike got some insight into the efforts behind making it in this city in this covet-able light. And, of course, there was a fashion show.

I, for one, am thrilled at the possibility of a developing blogger community in Miami and am curious to see what kind of impact these established ladies, and those of us trying to figure it out, will make on this curiously transient city. For now, there are pics below and many more on the Facebook. Happy blogging. xo

P.S. A BIG THANK YOU to my BFF, Ms. YHA, for taking time to snap tons of great pics while I snagged some on my phone for my Instagram obsession.

Miami Fashion Week 2012: By Misha

By Misha took the runway at Miami Fashion Week with nothing less than the richest fabrics and the matching tiaras to go with them. Unveiling the Crown Jewels collection, Miami International University graduate Misha Vaidya displayed the influences of her British upbringing in a collection studded with luxuriously flowing fabrics, deep jewel tones, and exquisitely tailored jackets, with each piece representing a queen, princess, or some aspect of royalty. The collection managed to remain youthful and wearable despite its regal them.

A Nuptial Happy Hour

Today’s Happy Hour post was inspired by the wedding I’ve been hired to work on today. As you’re reading this, it’s likely that I’m cursing the shoes I’m currently running in, never being one for convention over pretty stuff. But who can resist when there are shoes like the satin-y dreams the guys at Badgley Mischka think up? I wore them on my own wedding day (in fact, I wore two different pairs), and still regularly swoon over them.

Here are some gorgeous things you don’t have to be a bride to wear. In fact, I could seriously justify wearing these around the house while doing laundry (Never met a purchase I couldn’t justify – I’m that good). So, enjoy – and don’t curse me when you’re breaking these puppies in. Beauty, pain. All that jazz. Cheers!

Miami Fashion Week 2012: Ema Savahl Couture

There’s something to be said about couture and the avant garde. If done right, it can evoke such feelings akin to that of a profound piece of artwork. Another one of my favorites, the delicate intricacies found in Ema Savahl Couture’s collection at Miami Fashion Week were romantic, stunning – simply beautiful. From the subtle blush of nude to the variegated lace, each piece was unique in its exquisite construction.

Miami Fashion Week 2012: Art of Shade

With Brickell Fashion Week coming up next week and Miami Fashion Week not too far behind, I thought I’d keep the momentum going by continuing to post some favorites from the shows.

You might have first seen Art of Shade as featured in my teaser a little while ago, or maybe  as they made their debut last year and earned the coveted Designer’s Choice Award. This year’s collection was equally impressive with a hard edge that was surprisingly neither forced nor contrived, but rather displayed a little sci-fi-meets-post-apocalyptic-vulnerability.

Don’t really get what I mean? Check out the pics below to see for yourself and check out our Facebook page for more images from this show and many others.
